Tuakana-teina

Tuakana/teina refers to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a younger (teina) person and is specific to teaching and learning.

This week Room 10 (tuakana) has helped Room 19 (teina) gain new knowledge and learn new skills.

Today, we had the challenge of coming up with a healthy snack/drink for our Hauora topic this term.  Room 10 made fruit kebabs for our class and we made Banana and Berry smoothies for them.  We shared our healthy snacks after Lunchtime and it was delicious!  The generous Room 10 also read stories to us in the sunshine, thank you for all your help this week Room 10, you're awesome!

On Monday, Kiara and Lilly's Dad (Graham) came in and taught Room 10 how to make a 'knot man' which the girls had made for our Toy Topic...
Once Room 10 had a session on learning how to make one, they then passed on their knowledge and taught Room 19 the skill of making a 'knot man'.  Room 19 truly enjoyed the experience of learning from the Seniors and were so grateful to have had this opportunity.

  2. Your Tuakana-teina day sounds awesome. Lucky you getting to have fruit kebabs. The children in my class love it when we have a Tuakana-teina day.
