Tuakana-teina

Tuakana/teina refers to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a younger (teina) person and is specific to teaching and learning.

This week Room 10 (tuakana) has helped Room 19 (teina) gain new knowledge and learn new skills.

Today, we had the challenge of coming up with a healthy snack/drink for our Hauora topic this term.  Room 10 made fruit kebabs for our class and we made Banana and Berry smoothies for them.  We shared our healthy snacks after Lunchtime and it was delicious!  The generous Room 10 also read stories to us in the sunshine, thank you for all your help this week Room 10, you're awesome!

On Monday, Kiara and Lilly's Dad (Graham) came in and taught Room 10 how to make a 'knot man' which the girls had made for our Toy Topic...
Once Room 10 had a session on learning how to make one, they then passed on their knowledge and taught Room 19 the skill of making a 'knot man'.  Room 19 truly enjoyed the experience of learning from the Seniors and were so grateful to have had this opportunity.

Motuhake Show

On, Friday, we had the pleasure of watching this very entertaining show.  The kids and teachers were just captivated.  Nicole and Armani from our class were the lucky children that had the opportunity to be part of the show and they did a wonderful job with their awesome dance moves!!

Room 12, 14 and 19's Amazing Noho

Our three Junior Classes had the privelage of having a noho.  We had a funky disco in the Wharenui, wonderful dinner in the Wharekai, activities in the class and Toy Story 3 as our movie for the night.
Lights went out at 9.30pm and we slept till 6.30am.  We woke up ready for our Weetbix and Toast ready to start the day. I won't give too much away as we are publishing our recounts of the night!

Special thanks to all the teachers, parents, support staff and tamariki that contributed to making the night one to remember!

Jump Rope for Heart

At the beginning of the Term we found this task of Skipping quite a challenge.  Videos and step by step tutorials and Mrs Williams skipping with us helped us overcome the challenge and look at us now....
We had an amazing day and are definitely fitter!
